Solar Surge: Net Metering Units Soar 124% in July 2025

Pakistan’s solar momentum hit a new high in July 2025, with net metering units jumping 124% year-on-year, according to NEPRA data compiled by Arif Habib Limited. The spike reflects a sharp rise in solar adoption by households and businesses, driven by elevated power tariffs and the phase-out of temporary relief measures earlier this year.
Net metering contributed 115 GWh to national power generation in July, increasing its share by 47 basis points compared to the same period last year. However, output dipped 19% month-on-month, highlighting seasonal shifts in solar performance.
Despite the fluctuations, NEPRA forecasts a 2.8% growth in power demand for FY2025, signaling that while net metering is gaining ground, grid reliance remains strong. The data underscores Pakistan’s evolving energy mix and the growing role of decentralized, renewable solutions.
