Punjab Faces Worst Flood Since 1988 — Over 20 Million at Risk

Punjab is grappling with its most severe flooding in nearly four decades, as authorities confirm that the current disaster rivals the catastrophic flood of 1988.
Districts including Kasur, Sialkot, and Narowal are already partially submerged, with experts warning that the situation could deteriorate rapidly in the next 24 to 48 hours. The Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi rivers—which flow through densely populated areas—are swelling dangerously, threatening widespread devastation.
⚠️ Early estimates suggest over 20 million residents may be affected, with potential losses to infrastructure reaching into the trillions of rupees. Authorities are on high alert, bracing for what could be the province’s most destructive flood in recent history.
In a chilling development, the Kartarpur Gurdwara has reportedly disappeared beneath floodwaters, underscoring the scale of destruction.
Officials continue to urge residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate and remain vigilant, as more water is expected to enter the river systems in the coming days.
