Pakistan Receives Less Than Half of Geneva Flood Aid, Three Years On

By Business Desk  August 27, 2025
Nearly three years after the devastating 2022 floods, Pakistan has received less than half of the $11 billion pledged by international donors at the Geneva Conference, raising concerns over delayed disbursements and planning inefficiencies.
According to official records, only $4.69 billion has been secured so far. Of this, $2.75 billion was allocated for project financing, while $1.93 billion supported commodity imports. For the current fiscal year, Pakistan aimed to receive $1.26 billion, with projections showing $760 million earmarked for development projects.
Despite the scale of destruction—displacing millions and causing damages exceeding $30 billion—only $21 million of the $540 million pledged in outright grants has materialized.
Most of the funding has come through bilateral and multilateral agreements, structured as long-term loans rather than direct aid, raising questions about the sustainability and urgency of the recovery process.
