Power in Your Hands: How to Use Pakistan’s New Meter Reading App

To combat overbilling and bring transparency to electricity billing, the Government of Pakistan has launched the Power Smart App—part of its "Apna Meter, Apni Reading" initiative, developed by the Ministry of Power.

This handy mobile app allows electricity consumers to submit their own meter readings from home, ensuring accurate bills and helping eliminate common billing discrepancies.

How to Use the App:

  1. Download the App
Available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
  2. Register Your Consumer ID(s)
Link your electricity connection to your profile.
  3. Take a Meter Photo on Reading Day
Capture a clear image of your meter when prompted.
  4. Submit Before the Deadline
Timely submissions lock in your reading for accurate billing.

Key Benefits:

  • Control Over Your Bills
Your submitted reading overrides later entries from meter readers.
  • Preserves Subsidized Rates
Timely readings help maintain lower tariff brackets (up to 200 units).
  • Track Your Usage
Access real-time load shedding alerts, monitor daily consumption, and check electrical data like voltage and current across meters.
  • Customer Service Made Easy
Apply for new connections, request meter replacements, extend due dates, and report errors—all within the app.

Despite a few early technical hiccups, the app is expected to evolve with updates. Currently rated 2.6 on Google Play and 2.8 on the App Store, users are encouraged to share feedback to help improve its functionality.
