Petroleum Prices Surge Again as Global Tensions Influence Fuel Costs
The federal government has announced another round of fuel price hikes effective July 1, 2025. According to the Finance Division's latest notification, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs. 8.36 per liter, bringing it to Rs. 266.79. High-speed diesel has also seen an upward revision of Rs. 10.39, reaching Rs. 272.98 per liter.
This marks the second consecutive fortnightly increase, following earlier hikes of Rs. 4.80 and Rs. 7.95 for petrol and diesel, respectively.
The spike is partly attributed to recent volatility in global oil markets. A conflict that erupted on June 13—following Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities—initially pushed crude oil prices above $80 per barrel. Prices later eased below the $70 mark after a ceasefire was reached.
