Pakistan’s Education Boards Collaborate to Launch E-Marking and Automation in Exams

In a major step toward modernizing the country’s examination system, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) held a strategic meeting to discuss the implementation of automation, Optical Mark Recognition (OMR), and e-marking technologies. These upgrades aim to enhance transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in exam evaluation across Pakistan.
The meeting took place at the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) headquarters and was attended by key officials, including BIEK Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho, Sindh Technical Education Board Chairman Musharraf Ali Rajput, and FBISE Chairman Dr. Ikram Ali Malik.
During the session, participants agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize collaboration. The Federal Board will provide technical assistance, training, and operational guidance to help Karachi and Sindh Technical Boards adopt automated systems.
As part of the initial rollout, two officers from each provincial board will receive specialized training in Islamabad. Once trained, the automation and e-marking systems currently used by the Federal Board will be replicated in Karachi and Sindh.
Chairman Lakho noted that the Karachi Board had already piloted e-marking during the 2025 Intermediate Part-I Mathematics exam, yielding promising results.
The meeting also included FBISE Director of IT Dr. Bashir Khan and Controller of Examinations Aqeel Imran. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the reliability and integrity of the exam evaluation process nationwide.
