OGRA Approves Gas Price Increase for Fiscal Year 2025

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has sanctioned a 6.6% rise in gas prices, aiming to generate an additional Rs. 890 billion in revenue for the upcoming fiscal year.

The revised revenue targets now stand at Rs. 354 billion for SSGCL and Rs. 535 billion for SNGPL. To align with the increased cost structure of SNGPL, consumer gas prices—currently averaging Rs. 1,770 per mmBtu—are expected to rise by Rs. 125 per unit starting July 1.

Under existing policy, the government is required to maintain a uniform consumer tariff, meaning the revised rate could go up to Rs. 1,895 per unit nationwide. The difference between the prescribed rate for SSGCL and the uniform tariff will be treated as a Gas Development Surcharge.

OGRA has submitted the proposal to the federal government, which will now finalize category-wise consumer pricing under Section 8(3) of the OGRA Ordinance. Authorities may adjust the consumer-end prices without impacting revenue benchmarks.
