Sharjah Police Bust Beggar Raking in Dh14,000 in Just 3 Days
Sharjah Police's Anti-Begging Unit arrested an individual illegally residing in the UAE, who collected Dh14,000 in just 72 hours by exploiting public sympathy near a mosque. A concerned citizen alerted authorities, leading to the arrest.
Brigadier General Omar Al-Ghazal Al-Shamsi highlighted that begging poses social and security challenges, with some individuals treating it as a lucrative, seasonal profession.
The ongoing campaign, “Begging is a Crime, Giving is a Responsibility,” aims to curb such practices, particularly during Ramadan. Authorities encourage the public to report begging cases via toll-free number 80040 or 901, instead of providing direct financial assistance
