Punjab Wheat Farmers Gain Freedom to Set Market Prices Under New Policy
In a historic reform, Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced a free-market policy for wheat pricing, empowering farmers to independently determine the value of their harvest. This shift aims to eliminate government restrictions and foster a competitive market environment, allowing farmers to access broader opportunities.
Key highlights of the policy include the deregulation of inter-provincial wheat transportation, enabling farmers to sell their produce freely across the country. For the first time, private sector players will oversee wheat procurement, encouraging better price offerings and innovation within the agricultural sector.
To further support farmers, the government has distributed 1,000 tractors free of charge, recognizing record-breaking wheat production this season. With this bold move, Punjab’s leadership is redefining agricultural practices, ensuring sustainable growth and amplifying opportunities for local farmers.
