Punjab Resumes Digitalization of Old Arms Licenses
The Punjab government has resumed the process of verifying and digitizing old manual arms licenses, providing a final opportunity for holders to update their records.
License holders are required by the Home Department to convert their outdated booklet-style permits into digital records. Applications for verification and digitization can be submitted to the Commissioner of the relevant division or the Additional Secretary Judicial.
Revised Verification Process:
Under the new guidelines, only designated officials are authorized to process applications. Each case will be reviewed and approved before a license is updated in the digital database.
Applicants must submit the necessary documents and pay the renewal fee according to the Punjab Arms Rules 2023. NADRA has been instructed to ensure a smooth transition by efficiently updating records.
A formal notification has been sent to all divisional commissioners, highlighting the importance of completing the process within the given timeframe.
Historical Context:
The government had previously set December 31, 2020, as the final date for digitization, after which unregistered licenses were declared invalid. However, to facilitate citizens, authorities have reopened the process.
