Punjab Expands Free Wi-Fi Network with Advanced Technology
The Punjab government has enhanced its free Wi-Fi program by increasing the number of hotspots across the province and upgrading to advanced Wi-Fi 6 technology, ensuring faster and more reliable internet access for users.
In Lahore, the hotspots have been expanded from 200 to 230 for better coverage, while the Safe Cities Authority now manages 300 free internet points across districts such as Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Attock. Key areas in Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree are also benefiting from this initiative, with further expansion planned.
To date, the free Wi-Fi service has been accessed by over 17.7 million users, consuming a total of 438 terabytes of data. The service, designed primarily for emergency use, restricts entertainment or video streaming to maintain its focus.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced efforts to integrate digital tools in education, introducing smart classrooms, digital labs, and skill-based courses in fields like artificial intelligence, software development, and freelancing to better equip students for the digital age.
These initiatives reflect Punjab’s commitment to fostering innovation and technology accessibility across the province.
