PIA Employees to Receive Salary Increases

PIA Employees to Receive Salary Increases

The Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has approved cadre-wise salary increases for its employees. This marks the first salary adjustment in four years, aimed at helping staff cope with inflation, according to a PIA spokesperson.

The spokesperson mentioned that the salary increments could also assist in retaining experienced staff, as the airline's workforce has dropped below 7,000 and continues to decline.

Progress on PIA Privatization

In parallel, Pakistan remains dedicated to privatizing the national airline. The federal government is prepared to sell a 51-100 percent stake as part of its economic reform agenda, aligned with the $7 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program.

Previously, in November, the government rejected a sole bid from Blue World Consortium, which had offered Rs. 10 billion for a 60 percent stake—considerably lower than the Privatization Commission's minimum price of Rs. 85 billion.

The government is now gearing up for a second round of the privatization process. The Privatization Commission has announced its readiness for the next auction, anticipating participation from both returning bidders and new interested parties.
