Pakistan and Malaysia Strengthen Trade Ties with $200M Halal Meat Export Agreement

Pakistan is poised to expand its halal meat exports as discussions with Malaysia move toward securing a $200 million trade agreement over the next five years. Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting halal meat exports, positioning the sector as a driver of sustainable economic growth.

During a key meeting, officials explored strategies to enhance export capabilities while ensuring the highest quality standards. Hussain highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to supply premium halal meat to Malaysia, reinforcing bilateral trade and strengthening Pakistan’s role as a major player in the global halal industry.

The initiative coincides with the Malaysian Prime Minister’s recent visit to Pakistan, where both nations agreed to collaborate on halal trade. Pakistan currently ranks as Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in South Asia, with further cooperation anticipated in investment, agriculture, energy, and technology sectors.

Additionally, business councils from both countries discussed finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance engagement within the halal trade industry. Key officials, including Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industry Haroon Akhtar Khan, also participated in the discussions.
