
Pakistan and Azerbaijan Set to Formalize $2 Billion Investment Agreements
President of Azerbaijan has expressed his willingness to visit Islamabad this April to formalize agreements for $2 billion worth of investment projects in Pakistan.
During a meeting in Baku between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the President, the intention was made clear. This visit underscores the deep-rooted, historic ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Upon arrival at the Zugulba Palace, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was warmly received by the President, and a guard of honour was presented. The two leaders had a private meeting where they reaffirmed the strategic partnership and expressed satisfaction with the joint efforts to strengthen their ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the announcement of the $2 billion investment in Pakistan made during the President's visit in July 2024 and discussed potential projects ready for investment.
This was followed by delegation-level talks, with key ministers and senior officials from both sides. Both countries expressed a strong desire to deepen cooperation across various fields and enhance bilateral trade and investment, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and connectivity. They agreed that the current volume of trade does not reflect the full potential of their excellent ties and committed to enhancing it.
The leaders also expressed satisfaction with their cooperation at international forums such as the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded Azerbaijan's support for the Jammu and Kashmir issue and reiterated Pakistan's unequivocal support for Azerbaijan on Karabakh, expressing satisfaction with the liberation of the region under the bold leadership of the President.
Later, both leaders witnessed the exchange of agreements and MoUs to bolster cooperation in various sectors.
The Pakistan delegation included key ministers and senior officials, marking a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.
