Over 12 Million Phones Assembled in Pakistan in Just Five Months


Pakistan’s local mobile phone assembly sector recorded a major milestone in early 2025, with 12.05 million handsets produced between January and May, according to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). In contrast, only 0.76 million phones were commercially imported during the same period—underscoring the country's growing focus on domestic manufacturing.

🔸 Breakdown of Local Output:

  • 6.53 million units were 2G handsets
  • 5.52 million were smartphones

In comparison, the total for 2024 stood at 31.38 million locally assembled units, while imports were capped at 1.71 million.

📱 Smartphone Penetration on the Rise
The PTA further reported that 67% of mobile devices currently active on Pakistani networks are smartphones, while 33% remain on 2G technology.

📡 Telecom Service Performance & Complaints
May 2025 saw a total of 10,241 consumer complaints against telecom and internet service providers. Resolution rates remained high across all providers:

  • Jazz: 3,543 complaints (99.3% resolved)
  • Zong: 2,724 complaints
  • Telenor: 1,722 complaints
  • Ufone: 1,129 complaints (97.4% resolved)

Additional feedback included 126 complaints against basic telephony services (89.7% resolved) and 695 related to internet services (90.5% resolved).
