Lahore High Court Pushes for Environmental Reforms and EV Charging Stations
The Lahore High Court has taken a significant step toward combating environmental challenges by mandating the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at all fuel stations. This directive is part of broader efforts to address smog and improve sustainability.
During a recent hearing on environmental issues, the court expressed concerns about insufficient measures to manage smog and water wastage. Declaring a water emergency, the authorities have been instructed to install water meters and introduce tax incentives for eco-friendly buildings.
In addition, the Parks and Horticulture Authority has been tasked with restoring canal water, while directives were issued to create Miyawaki forests in urban sectors. The court also emphasized the importance of converting petrol-powered rickshaws to electric alternatives through incentive programs.
The Lahore Development Authority and other agencies were urged to establish public-private partnerships for constructing parking facilities. These reforms aim to enhance environmental sustainability and provide long-term benefits for the community. Further updates are expected after the next hearing on March 21.
