Islamabad Set to Become Pakistan’s First Fully Cashless City

In a transformative step toward modern governance, Islamabad is gearing up to become Pakistan’s first fully cashless city, thanks to an ambitious initiative led by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Citizens will soon be able to pay for key services—including taxes, land transfers, bills, and parking—using QR codes and mobile apps.

Digital Payments, Smarter Systems
This system will be rolled out in high-traffic zones first, streamlining transactions and promoting transparency. The digital shift is expected to curb corruption, eliminate long queues, and reduce dependence on cash-based interactions.

Leadership Insight
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized that the move will help develop a smart, citizen-centric capital in line with Pakistan’s broader vision of digital financial inclusion.

Banking Partnerships
By collaborating with leading financial institutions, the CDA aims to ensure seamless infrastructure and public adoption—bringing Islamabad a step closer to global smart city benchmarks.

Implementation Timeline
With systems going live soon, Islamabad’s model may set the tone for digitized urban governance across other cities in Pakistan.
