Government Invites Budget Proposals from Tech and Telecom Sectors

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has called on key players in the IT and telecom industries to submit their budget proposals for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26. The stakeholders, including telecom companies, mobile phone manufacturers, fiber-optic firms, and the broader IT sector, have until March 10 to present their suggestions.

The focus of these proposals is expected to be on enhancing digital infrastructure, promoting local manufacturing, and boosting IT exports. The government aims to address significant challenges such as high taxation, regulatory barriers, and investment limitations through these recommendations.

Industry leaders have been encouraged to provide comprehensive submissions that cover a range of areas, including broadband expansion, data centers, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital payments. The telecom sector is anticipated to push for reduced taxes on mobile devices and network equipment, while the IT industry seeks incentives for software exports and support for freelancers.

Following the submission deadline, the MoITT and relevant government departments will review the proposals. They will conduct consultations with stakeholders to ensure that the budget aligns with the growth objectives of the industry.
