The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety has announced the Nisab of Zakat for the year 1445-46 AH, setting it at Rs. 179,689. This notification comes from the Administrator General Zakat and highlights a notable increase from the previous year's threshold of Rs. 135,179.
For the new Zakat year, deductions will only be made from accounts that hold a balance exceeding Rs. 179,689 on the first day of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak, 1446 AH, which is expected to fall on March 1st or 2nd, 2025, subject to the moon's sighting.
Zakat will be deducted from various accounts including Saving Bank Accounts, Profit and Loss Sharing Accounts, and other similar accounts, provided the balance meets or exceeds the Nisab. Customers who have submitted Zakat exemption certificates will be excluded from these deductions.
All Zakat Collection and Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) are instructed to follow this updated Nisab and submit the necessary returns to the Ministry, depositing Zakat into the Central Zakat Account maintained by the State Bank of Pakistan.
This increased Nisab marks a significant adjustment, reflecting economic changes and ensuring that Zakat remains impactful for those in need.
