Floods Trigger Food Price Surge Across Lahore

Heavy rains and widespread flooding in Punjab have crippled supply chains, causing severe shortages in Lahore’s wholesale markets and sending food prices soaring.
Truckloads of produce remain stranded due to submerged roads and damaged infrastructure, leading to inflated costs and deteriorated quality. Retailers, facing limited oversight, are charging far above official rates—deepening public frustration amid rising inflation.
Poultry Prices Spike:
•     Live chicken: Rs 500–530/kg (official: Rs 397–411)
•     Chicken meat: Rs 650–750/kg (official: Rs 595)
•     Boneless: Rs 1,200/kg (official: Rs 1,100)
Vegetable Price Hikes:
•     Potatoes: up to Rs 150/kg (official: Rs 85–90)
•     Tomatoes: Rs 180–200/kg (official: Rs 110–120)
•     Garlic & Ginger: up to Rs 700/kg
Fruit Prices Soar:
•     Dates: Rs 900–2,000/kg (official: Rs 470–500)
•     Grapes: Rs 500–600/kg (official: Rs 440–460)
•     Persimmons: Rs 300–350/kg (official: Rs 168–175)
With forecasts predicting more rain and no clear enforcement in sight, economists warn of prolonged inflationary pressure and deepening strain on urban households.
