Starting today, the Apple TV app is now available for installation on Android smartphones and tablets, provided they run Android 10 or later.
This development, though long-awaited, marks a significant expansion since Apple TV+ was launched five years ago. Until now, Android users could only access Apple TV+ content via a web browser, while the app remained exclusive to Apple devices and select smart TVs.
With this rollout, Android users can now stream Apple TV+ shows, movies, and MLS Season Pass on their mobile devices. The MLS Season Pass, an optional add-on for soccer fans, is priced at $12.99 per month or $79 per season, while Apple TV+ itself costs $9.99 per month. Additionally, Apple has integrated Friday Night Baseball live broadcasts into the new app experience.
Users can sign in with an existing Apple ID or create a new account directly within the app. However, a limitation remains—Android users won’t have access to the in-app store to rent or purchase movies and shows.
This update, though welcomed, underscores Apple's historically slow pace in bringing its services to competing platforms. For instance, the rollout still appears limited to smart TVs in Europe.
Nonetheless, Android users subscribed to Apple TV+ can now enjoy a more seamless viewing experience—one that should have arrived much sooner.
