US Issues Travel Advisory for Pakistan Over Security Concerns

The United States Department of State has released a Level 3 travel advisory, urging its citizens to reconsider traveling to Pakistan due to the risks of terrorism and potential for armed conflict.

The advisory highlights that terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting various locations such as transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist attractions, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government facilities.

The Global Terrorism Index 2025 has ranked Pakistan as the second-most terrorism-affected country in 2024, with a 45% rise in terrorism-related deaths. The number of attacks more than doubled, surpassing 1,000 for the first time.

The State Department noted that there are greater security resources and infrastructure in major cities, particularly Islamabad, but warned that conditions could change unexpectedly. It also cautioned Americans against attending protests, as some US nationals have been detained for participating in demonstrations or posting content critical of the Pakistani government.

Furthermore, travel to Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and areas along the Line of Control (LoC) with India has been classified as Level 4, advising against all travel due to frequent terrorist attacks, assassinations, and kidnappings.

The advisory also recommends enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), staying aware of surroundings, avoiding crowds, having an emergency plan, and securing medical insurance with evacuation coverage.
