Security Crisis at Parliament Lodges: Majority of CCTV Cameras Found Non-Functional

Islamabad, September 3, 2025 — A startling security lapse has come to light at the Parliament Lodges, where only 30 out of 40 CCTV cameras are operational—and even those are outdated. The revelation emerged during a high-level meeting of the Standing Committee on House and Library, chaired by Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah.
Lawmakers expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security infrastructure protecting the residences of Members of the National Assembly. The situation was further compounded by the disclosure that only six Islamabad Police personnel are currently deployed to safeguard the entire complex—an alarmingly low number given the sensitive nature of the location.
“This is not just a maintenance issue. It’s a matter of national security,” one committee member stated, highlighting the urgency of the matter and the complacency of responsible departments.
Officials from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) admitted to the shortcomings and pledged to restore all non-functional cameras within three months. However, lawmakers demanded immediate action, citing rising security threats and the unacceptable pace of development.
The committee proposed a series of urgent measures to address the crisis:
•     📹 Installation of additional CCTV cameras at Parliament Lodges and MNAs’ Hostel
•     🅿️ Expansion of parking facilities to reduce congestion
•     🛠️ Swift resolution of maintenance issues including seepage, termite infestations, and structural decay
Despite billions spent on the Parliament Lodges over the years, the complex continues to suffer from persistent infrastructure and safety failures. Lawmakers now insist that the situation demands not just upgrades, but accountability.
