Pakistan's Mobile Phone Production Soars to 31.4 Million Units in 2024
According to recent data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local mobile companies in Pakistan manufactured and assembled 2.95 million units in December 2024, marking a 28 percent month-on-month (MoM) increase.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, local mobile companies produced 8.79 million units, reflecting a 67 percent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) growth compared to 5.25 million units in the third quarter.
Overall, the total production for 2024 reached 31.4 million units, a 47 percent increase over 2023. This remarkable growth can be attributed primarily to last year's import restrictions.
The expansion is driven by economic recovery, a higher market share for locally assembled phones amid increased taxes on imported phones, and a growing population.
Out of the 31.4 million units produced in 2024, 59 percent (18.64 million units) were smartphones, while the remaining 41 percent (12.74 million units) were 2G phones.
In 2024, Pakistan met 95 percent of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing and assembly, compared to an average of 67 percent over the last five years (2019-2023) and 47 percent over the last eight years (2016-2023).
