New Instagram Teen Accounts Launched in Pakistan to Boost Online Safety

Meta, in partnership with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has officially launched Instagram Teen Accounts—designed to offer safer digital spaces for users under 16.

This initiative automatically places young users into Teen Accounts, activating stricter privacy settings, content filters, and protections against unwanted contact. The goal: to enable secure, age-appropriate exploration of the platform.

The launch event brought together representatives from Meta, UNICEF/NCRC, and key child protection stakeholders. Attendees participated in live demos and awareness sessions covering complaint mechanisms, safety tools, and best practices for youth digital wellbeing.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, HI (M) SI, emphasized the importance of building a safer digital ecosystem for Pakistan’s youth. Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, Meta’s Head of Safety Policy for South Asia, praised the collaboration, noting that global safety initiatives like this are helping millions of teenagers—including in Pakistan—navigate the online world more securely.
