Meta Blocks Distribution of Ex-Employee’s Scandalous Memoir

Meta has won an early legal battle to stop the distribution of "Careless People," a memoir by former Facebook policy executive Sarah Wynn-Williams. The book, detailing internal conflicts at Facebook, has been temporarily halted following an arbitrator’s ruling in Meta’s favor.

Wynn-Williams’ memoir reveals tensions within Facebook, including Mark Zuckerberg’s unsuccessful attempts to enter the Chinese market and alleged inappropriate behavior by current policy chief Joel Kaplan. Meta argues that Wynn-Williams violated a non-disparagement agreement signed during her departure in 2017.

Meta swiftly launched a public relations campaign calling the memoir a “new book of old news” and sought an emergency injunction to halt its distribution. The arbitrator’s decision requires Wynn-Williams to cease all promotional activities and refrain from making further disparaging remarks about the company.

While the book is already available for sale, the ruling's impact on its future availability remains uncertain. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone stated that the ruling validates Meta’s position and criticized Wynn-Williams for avoiding standard fact-checking.

Flatiron Books, the publisher, has not yet commented on the ruling.
