Major General (Retd.) Zafarullah Khan Appointed as DG of Cannabis Regulatory Authority
The federal government has officially appointed Major General (Retd.) Zafarullah Khan as the Director General of the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority, as per a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Thursday.
This appointment is part of a series of recent high-level transfers and postings implemented by the federal government.
The Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority was established in March 2024 following an ordinance enacted by then-President Arif Alvi. In September 2024, the National Assembly passed the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority Bill, 2024, which set forth regulations for cannabis cultivation and the sale of its extracts for medicinal purposes.
In related developments, Raja Tanveer Azmi, a Grade 20 Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, has been relieved of his duties and directed to report to the Establishment Division.
Additionally, the government has reassigned Rana Manzoor Ahmed Khan, a Grade 20 officer from the Military Lands and Cantonments Group, back to the Military Cantonment Department. He previously served as Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Division.
