Lavish Wedding Sparks Outrage Amid Economic Struggles

A senior Pakistani bureaucrat is under scrutiny after reportedly spending over Rs. 25 crore on his daughter’s wedding, triggering public outrage in the midst of the country’s ongoing economic crisis.
Sources reveal the celebration spanned six elaborate events, with Rs. 40 million spent on décor and venues, and Rs. 30 million on catering for 400 guests. Designer outfits for the bride, groom, and family cost Rs. 30 million, while Rs. 80 million was spent on diamond and gold jewellery.
The wedding featured fireworks, drone light shows, cinematic shoots, foreign consultants, and handmade invitations, pushing the total cost to Rs. 248 million. Nearly Rs. 30 million went into styling, entertainment, and photography, while Rs. 28 million covered invitations, hampers, and creative consultancy.
Despite the scale of spending, no record of these expenses was found in the official’s or his daughter’s tax filings. Most payments were reportedly made in cash, raising concerns of tax evasion.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched an investigation, citing the case as a textbook example of hidden wealth. Officials noted the bride’s frequent foreign travel — including trips to Canada, the UK, Mexico, and the UAE — as inconsistent with her declared assets.
