Instagram Might Introduce Longer Reels to Compete With TikTok

Meta’s photo and video sharing application, Instagram, is rumored to be working on a feature that would allow creators to make reels up to 10 minutes long. This move is seen as an attempt to compete with TikTok, which recently introduced longer videos and received a positive response from users.

The news about the longer reels feature was first shared by famous leaker Alessandro Paluzzi, who posted screenshots showing two versions of Instagram's reels page. One version allowed users to record 3-minute videos, which is the current standard for Instagram, while the other version allowed users to record reels up to 10 minutes long.

While Meta or Instagram have not confirmed any plans to release the 10-minute reel feature, its arrival was expected following TikTok’s similar update. Initially launched for short clips, reels could soon include longer content such as 10-minute vlogs, product reviews, and more, opening up new opportunities for creators.

This potential update could also bring competition to YouTube, which has been a dominant force in the long-video format. It remains to be seen whether Instagram’s algorithm will recommend longer videos as much as it does for shorter ones.
