Government Declares No Wheat Imports for 2025

The federal government has announced that it will not import wheat this year, aligning with commitments made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain shared this decision during his address to the National Assembly, citing that domestic wheat production in 2025 is projected to sufficiently meet the country's needs for the 2025–26 period.

Future decisions regarding wheat imports or exports will depend on market demand, according to the minister. He also revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a cabinet committee tasked with creating a comprehensive wheat policy. Additionally, a Cabinet Committee on Essential Commodities, led by the Deputy Prime Minister, has convened twice to discuss strategic measures related to the matter.
