BankIslami Launches Karachi's First All-Women-Managed Branch for Gender Inclusivity
In a significant move toward promoting gender inclusivity, BankIslami has inaugurated its first fully women-managed branch in Karachi. This branch, staffed entirely by female employees, aims to empower women both as professionals and customers within Pakistan's financial sector.
This initiative aligns with the bank's mission of "Saving Humanity from Riba," focusing on ethical and inclusive financial practices across the nation. With only 21% of Pakistan's workforce being women—much lower than the global average—BankIslami seeks to create opportunities and break barriers in an industry that has historically underserved women.
"This initiative is about more than just business," stated Rizwan Ata, CEO and President of BankIslami. "It's about building a future where women are fully represented in the workforce and can lead and thrive. Inclusivity is not optional; it is essential."
Supported by the Asian Development Bank’s Women’s Finance Exchange (gWFX), the program includes gender sensitivity training for BankIslami staff to help realize this vision. Zulfiqar Lehri, Group Head of Retail Banking, emphasized, "We are empowering our female employees with job opportunities while offering our customers an inclusive banking experience. This step will pave the way for greater gender diversity and set a new industry benchmark."
BankIslami's commitment to ethical and inclusive banking is reflected in its Mashal Women Banking program, offering tailored financial solutions like the Mashal Asaan Account, which simplifies account creation and provides benefits such as free cheque books and discounted debit card fees. The Mashal Savings Account offers competitive profit rates, free debit cards, and health coverage for critical illnesses. Additionally, the Mashal Business Finance product provides low-cost financing for female entrepreneurs under the SBP-subsidized scheme.
By launching this all-women branch, BankIslami reaffirms its dedication to empowering women and establishing a fair and ethical financial system, marking a significant milestone in its vision for inclusivity in Pakistan's financial landscape.
