The long-awaited successor to the iPhone SE family has been revealed, but it comes with a twist. Apple has officially discontinued the SE lineup and introduced the new iPhone 16e, which joins the 16 series at a more affordable price point.

As anticipated, the iPhone 16e features the body of the iPhone 14, but it boasts a newer chip, a single camera, and Apple Intelligence capabilities.

Design and Display

The iPhone 16e retains the iPhone 14's 6.1-inch “Super Retina XDR” OLED display, protected by Ceramic Shield on both the front and back. Apple claims this is the "toughest back glass in a smartphone." The device also shares the iPhone 14's thick bezels and wide notch.

Internals and Software

Powered by the A18 SoC, the iPhone 16e outperforms the iPhone 14 in terms of processing power, matching the capabilities of the other iPhone 16 models. It supports Apple Intelligence and runs on iOS 18 with all features enabled. While Apple didn't disclose the RAM capacity, reports suggest a minimum of 8 GB.

Cameras

The iPhone 16e features a "2-in-1 camera system" with a 48MP sensor, replacing the iPhone 14's dual 12MP setup. While it lacks an ultrawide lens, it offers 2x lossless zoom, optical image stabilization (OIS), and 4K video recording at up to 60fps. The front camera is a 12MP sensor.

Battery and Pricing

Apple claims the iPhone 16e has "the best battery life ever on a 6.1-inch iPhone," lasting 6 hours longer than the iPhone 11. However, specific battery details remain to be confirmed through further analysis.
